An IPO application is the request you submit to buy shares in a public issue. You can make it through your stock broker’s app, your bank’s net banking IPO section, or a UPI-enabled platform. The form asks for the company name, the category you belong to, such as retail individual, the number of lots, the bid price or the cut-off option, your PAN, your demat account details and the UPI ID or bank account to be used for the blocked amount. Each application is checked against the depository and tax databases, and applications with errors, such as a mismatch between PAN and demat name, or with duplicates, are rejected. After you submit, you must approve the UPI mandate request on your phone so the money can be blocked. Allotment results are then declared by the registrar, and shares are credited to your demat account. Keep a copy of the application number, since it is used to check status. Do not apply through unknown agents or share your UPI PIN. Each family member can apply separately with their own PAN and bank account. IPO Bulletin links to the official application guidance for each live issue, along with the closing time.
Example: You open your broker’s app, select the IPO, enter 1 lot at the cap price, type your UPI ID, and submit. A mandate request appears in your UPI app. After you approve it with your PIN, the application is complete.
